For my methods, I use a variety of books and create a diet of exercises and pieces that will build on fundamentals - from open strings, to scales and etudes like Schradieck, Kreutzer to pieces from the Suzuki Method as well as other options such as Nardini Concerto in b minor or Haydn Concerto in G Major. You cannot expect to learn a music skill and be able to use it without practice. This is like a marathon runner who cannot expect to run far without training. Much of the frustration students find when it comes to improvement comes from the misunderstanding that something learned in music stays learned. I have a Bachelor's of Music in Violin Performance from Eastern Michigan University, and have been studying violin and playing independently for twenty years.
