I then took over their classes and received feedback and guidance from them. Since moving to Chicago in 2017, I have worked with a music school and taught private lessons as well as group lessons in Chicago Public Schools. As my love for teaching grew, I realized how many students there truly were in my hometown who had the talent and thirst for proper education in music, but did not have the resources. This is when I became involved with a program for underserved children which eventually became the Fine Arts Institute in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Nothing is more rewarding than when my students leave the lesson more motivated than when they came. I understand that it is a challenge for students to go home and practice, so I address this by setting goals for the student. I want the student to leave the lesson feeling proud of what they accomplished and motivated to continue learning. In my teaching methods, I focus on the correct positioning of both hands and the body as a whole. Freedom of play is important to me, which will help the student to develop technically and artistically. Over many years of experience working with beginners, I have developed my own methodology that enables rapid growth in the play, and my students show very good results already in the first year. I encourage a parent/guardian to be involved in helping students build a practice pattern. My philosophy is that students need to practice every day, even if its only 5-10 minutes they have time for. Practicing a little bit each day is more effective than cramming practice into the day before the lesson. My top priority in teaching violin is for my students to develop a love for music. This includes tailoring my teaching style dependent on the student's learning style. Typically, I like to begin my lessons with developing musical foundations (which includes scales, rhythm, and different bow and finger exercises). Then, I choose a piece that challenges the student in some artistic capacity. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
