I try to enable all of my students to gain a better more meanigful appreciation for music. I enjoy teaching and try to incorporate technique while learning music. Regular practice is a good habit to learn early on and I ask all students to bring a notebook to lessons so progress can be recorded. Regular attendance is important to continue to learn their new skill and I think learning a new discipline needs to be enjoyed. Read More

My methods are extremely varied and depend on the students wants and needs. I am trained in the Suzuki method as well as Paul Roland's approach to music education and am comfortable implementing both into my teaching along with various others. I do not, however, generally stick to just one method as I have observed it generally does not give the student a rounded musical education. I was the first musician in my family and I therefore know how intimidating it can be for families like mine that have a limited knowledge of the music world and the opportunities therein. Read More

I am a patient teacher and encourge students to work at their own pace. If we need to spend more time on a certain concept or technique than one lesson allows, we will. I want to make sure that they understand throroughly before moving on to the next concept. At the same time, I want my students to feel challenged in their lessons so that they will be willing to go home and put the work in during their practice time. Read More

When i start a beginner student, i like to use either Essential Elements or Suzuki for violin and cello. For piano, i like to use the Faber method books. As the student progresses with either instrument, I try to encourage them to continue with scales and to move up in their playing abilities and music reading. I try to mix it up for my students and ask them what they like to play just to keep them interested. Read More

When starting with a young beginner student, I typically start with the beginning Suzuki Method books or Essential Elements books. I will also work on school repertoire if applicable. Once they have advanced past the level of the Suzuki books, I will begin to introduce solo works appropriate for their level and desire. When teaching adults of varying abilities, my methods are much more tailored to their wants in terms of style of music, difficulty of the pieces and the speed at which they would like to learn. Hello! I am currently getting my masters at NEC but I love to teach as well. My main instrument is the viola but I also teach violin. I started playing the violin at age 10 and switched my focus to viola in 2004. The majority of my life has been devoted to seeking the best musical education with the goal of becoming a strong violist. My training is classical but lately I have been branching out to jazz and improvisation. Read More

Although I am not a certified Suzuki teacher, I do utilize the Suzuki books for beginning students. I find that they provide a good breadth of repertoire suitable for students who are new to their instruments. For more advanced students, I use standard repertoire for their instrument, making sure each piece teaches them to hone a skill while also preparing them for big auditions. I believe it is important to have a long and diverse repertoire list. Read More
