My teaching style really focuses around developing a love for your instrument. If the student loves their instrument and the music that is written for their instrument, they will feel encouraged to practice. I try to pick up on the student's personality and learning styles and make each person's lesson a combination of my teaching styles and what works best for the student. Once we find the routine and groove that works for the both the student and myself, then the learning should come along easily and fun. Read More

When teaching music (or anything), I always attempt to meet the students where they are: For example, when teaching a young beginner, I m a young beginner, I would probably explain the scale by singing the, "Doe, a Deer," song (from The sound of Music) - everyone knows that. I try to keep things light, simple and fun, while challenging at the same time. I also try to help students cheive their targeted goal, as most people have a favorite song or style of music in mind that they want to learn. Read More

For beginner students, I start with Hal Leonard's "Essential Elements for Strings" Book 1. This book is not only great for learning the fundamentals of the instrument (such as the names of the parts of the instrument, how to hold the instrument, etc.) but it also the best book I have found to teach beginning students how to read music on the violin and viola. For more advanced students, I like to stick with a formula of three things: scales (two-three octaves), an etude (a piece used to focus on a specific technique), and solo repertoire. Read More

My teaching style is supportive and progressive. Keeping things fresh, new, and exciting is always a factor in all of my lessons, no matter the student or the instrument. Furthermore, my teaching philosophy is that positivity and encouragement leads to progress at all levels. I try to push my students to achieve their full potential without making them feel forced to do so. This way, my students learn more about themselves through music instead of feeling stagnant and unmotivated because of music. Read More

That the beneficiaries could attract other interested candidates to the program. To be able to visualize in the future that the students are able to become great musicians, that appreciate music as a social action, and the values of education through music; and that the grown up individual could appreciate the aesthetic potentials of music so that he or she could progressively help improve his or her mood, health and quality of life. My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. Regardless of which instrument(s) my student is learning, I generally teach at the pace of the student. I never rush a student, and I keep with a scenario that is COMFORTABLE for both of us. Being relaxed is important to learning, and I always stress having students' hands relatively loose while holding and playing their instrument. I have lesson plans that I devise myself, while referring slightly to instructional videos and books also. Read More
