I became a self taught student in brass and piano and later was accepted as a Music major to West Chester University. My teaching methods shift and change based on instrument, skill and age. For teens and adults, I like to find out what type of music my students listen to and gear our training toward using the instrument the choose to become a musician. But all instruments require technical exercises and technique training, so for all ages I like the Strictly Strings series and Suzuki method for violin, and Essential Elements for Saxophone, Piano and Bassoon. I will vary my methods based on the individual student. For students between 3 and 7, I will use the Suzuki method, which in my experience is best for students of that age. For beginners after that, I will use method books and repertoire that not only addresses the students technical and musical development at that point in time, but is also fun and enjoyable to play. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I understand some student may not have much time to practice, so I encourage as long as you practice even once or twice per week , set a short goal even one line two lines on the music or couple of bars, progress little and slow but practice on the right way, building right correct position and get used of it still helpful then nothing or some incorrect habit. I have been teaching privately and in group classes for the past 6 years. This past summer, I taught a chamber orchestra of kids ages 6-12 in Narni, Italy. It was a truly rewarding experience. Most of my experience is with teaching private lessons. I am open to teaching all ages and levels. For violin, I teach mostly beginners and intermediate students, but can teach all levels for viola.
