My motto is my students create their own lesson. I formulate lesson plans off of the styles of music you are most interested in. If my student has a more "just for fun" attitude, the lesson will inevitably be a more light hearted feel. If the student would like to focus on more technicalities, that as well is a different approach. However, I do have a more structured plan for younger students. Read More

I have other very child-friendly books for young beginners and use Fiddle Magic and String Rhythms bySally O'Reilly as fun ways to reinforce rhythm and technique. I introduce solos from a variety of sources progressively that complement what is being learned. I try to integrate scales, etudes, and solos for maximum understanding and match the assignments to specific interests and technical needs. I foster and encourage participation in chamber music, group recitals, and school and youth orchestras. Read More

I first began private teaching as a high school student - this allowed me to discover my love for working with students and helping them reach their goals. I attended the University of South Carolina where I took extensive music education coursework alongside my violin performance degree, teaching at the USC String Project and also maintaining my own home studio. After college I moved to the Bay Area and taught at the Bravo Conservatory of Music before moving to Washington state to pursue new opportunities. Read More

With a great passion for music and even greater passion for teaching, I am a experienced and enthusiastic instructor who loves working students. In 2015, I graudated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance.During my undergraudate yeras, I earned merit scholarships, participated in orchestras, competitions, and recitals, attended prestigious music festivals, and played for some of the world's most renowned musicians, such as Charles Castleman, the Muir String Quartet, Danish String Quartet, and Vermeer String Quartet. For beginning students, I typically start with the Essential Elements method book, which introduces the fundamentals in a way that is friendly to all learners, easy to understand, and interesting. Once the students has an understanding of the fundamentals, we will typically move on to Suzuki Book One, supplemented with various other exercises. At this stage, the student is able to give their first recital performance. For intermediate or more experienced students, I will typically find out what the student is interested in and provide solo repertoire based on their interests. Read More

I approach each student as an individual. Some students take things slow and steady, while others I can barely fit enough into their weekly lessons to keep them happy, and either way is just fine. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to make myself obsolete - I aim to teach my students how to learn, how to be critics of themselves for more effective practice time, and eventually, how to either need a teacher that can take them to more advanced levels, or to play without a teacher. Its so easy to put too much pressure on students and cause the classic burn out that so many musicians have experienced at some point or another. So Im very conscious of how my students are feeling and noticing the difference between the need for instructive support and the need for encouragement. I like to end every lesson with three questions. What did you learn today? What can you improve on this week? Read More
