Each student develops at their own pace. To improve quickly, practice is very necessary.  To improve slowly, lessons may be what guides your practice time. It is up to the student (and parent).  I like to keep the pace moving, but repeat as much as necessary to build a firm foundation.

I am a full-time teacher of language arts, but still a life-long violinist.  My musical background is classically based, but expands to all forms of music.  I received my degree from Montclair State University, where Icontinued to study and participate in small chamber ensembles and solo engagements for public and private occasions.  I continue to practice and study regularly, always looking to further my own abilities with the instrument(s), and greatly value those students who willingly wish to study.

I teach the suzuki method for violin and for piano. I focus on music theory, sight reading, creativity and performance. I also use excercise books for violin such as the Schradieck violin technique, essential elements and Wholfart method for advanced beginners. I first make sure that tension is released and once the tension is released, we move on to playing scales and learning bowing technique. I assign repertoire usually one or two songs for the student to learn. For adult students I try to first find out on what they are interested in playing whether it is jazz, pop, rock or classical, and we move along from there.

My teaching will involve lots of singing, maybe some dancing, and also understanding interaction with other instruments. I make sure that students incorporate the idea of playing violin for their own joy, and also sharing that joy with other people.  I encourage playing for their friends and family at any possible occasions. It is important role of the teacher to show how much fun it can be to perform for other people ! This will motivate the student to practice and also be an expressive person in a different level.

I have a passion for both playing the violin and teaching. I like to make my students feel comfortable so that they are more open to learning and expressing themselves. But I'm always pushing them to be better by making them identify and correct mistakes, not slack off on posture, learning through repetition, and consistent practice outside of lessons. I recognize that each student has a different background, personality, and learning style, and it is the teacher's job to cater to the specific needs of each student.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
