Since college, I have focused on honing my skills as an educator, having taught in both public school and private lesson settings. I have worked as an orchestra teacher in both Elmhurst and St. Charles in addition to maintaining a thriving private studio, serving diverse learners aged six to 60. With a breadth of teaching experience already under my belt, I strive to personalize each lesson to the student and their individual goals, finding practical approaches to arm students with a solid foundation of musical knowledge and technique. While I have performed with numerous groups, I found myself falling more in love with teaching than performing. Playing the violin has brought me such joy, offered me so many opportunities, and given me so many friends that I want to share this gift with everyone. I believe that everyone can benefit from learning an instrument and I strive to give the best instruction and form the best environment possible. Read More

I teach the fundamentals of the violin (for beginners) out of the Hal Leonard Essential Elements book series. For solo pieces and scales (for students who have had a year or so of instruction), I teach out of the Suzuki Method books. For more advanced students, I use technique books such as Wolfhart and Sevcik to develop bow and finger control. Additional books I use for choosing repertoire for students include Barber's Solos for Young Violinists and various concerti depending on the student's ability level. Read More

For beginning students (pre-Suzuki), I like to take material from different method books and even write my own songs. This way, each student has their own, individualized curriculum to help with technique or material that they find to be difficult. Once the student has a good grasp of the fundamentals, I like to use Suzuki books. I like to use the Suzuki method for younger beginners because it can be more challenging to learn to read notes, but I encourage note reading for older students. Read More

Ive had all different kinds of teachers - ones that have touched my heart through music and our relationship, others that have made music a dread, and some a little crazy. But from each teacher I have learned what to be and not to be for my students. Though important, violin is not always the center of someones life. I understand if a goal isnt met or something comes up, and readjusting so progress can happen. Read More

I believe in inspiring the upmost confidence in my students right from the beginning. Young musicians should never feel intimidated, and should want to share their talent with others. Music is unlike any other extra curricular activity in the lives of young ones. Through the arts, a teacher is able to impose the education of feeling. It is important that children grow up knowing that there are multiple solutions to a problem, and music is a great way to instill that idea. Read More
