Once I have assessed a students's personal ability, there is discussion of what goals/objectives the student wshes to achieve. In 2007, I graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a Bachelors of Arts after spending four years in intesive violin studies.  I am fortunate to have performed with many chamber orchestras and quartets over the years. My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. My goal is to cultivate musicianship.  Students are encouraged to develop technical skills as a means of creative and emotional expression.  Sight reading and improvisation are taught simultaneously with music theory and composition. My lessons with young beginners tend do be focus on very specific skills. For instance, a 7 year old book 1 student learning "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" will do exercises focusing on bow holds, violin posture, tone production, bow distribution, and articulation.
