My motto is my students create their own lesson. I formulate lesson plans off of the styles of music you are most interested in. If my student has a more "just for fun" attitude, the lesson will inevitably be a more light hearted feel. On top of violin pedagogy, I was also employed by the University of North Texas Learning Center as a Supplemental Instructor for Music Theory. I also place an emphasis on learning what I can about my students in non musical settings so I can best learn how to communicate with them so they feel comfortable and successful. Many students feel comfortable talking through concepts and techniques while others prefer detailed written instructions in a take home journal. I give all my students the opportunity to work on new and difficult things in the safe atmosphere of a lesson to ease potential frustration in their in home practicing. Read More

I teach using a combination of the Pascale Method (a very good set of pre-written lessons for the very young student), I Can Read Music's rhythm exercises (goes along with the Suzuki books), Strings Fun and Easy, and Suzuki. In addition, I now start students in third position, which has proven to be so very beneficial to my students. I'm a passionate music educator who studied Violin Performance at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC before moving to the west coast. I have eight years of teaching experience with students aged 3 and up, and I have played in many orchestras such as the Northwest Symphony Orchestra where I am currently principal second violin, the Santa Cruz Symphony and San Francisco Academy orchestras in California, the Greenville Symphony and South Carolina Philharmonic in my home state, and numerous others.
