Instruments: Viola
For beginning students I like to begin with learning scales, becoming aware of the circle of fifths, introducing different types of bow strokes, bow control, and other essentials along with simple Suzuki book solo pieces. Once the student has progressed a little further, I will introduce more difficult solo repertoire that I feel will help the students techniques while also showcasing their abilities. For adults, I will try to find out what music the student is interested in and work with them in that way, in order to keep them engaged and enjoy playing music! Read More

I taught the students from beginners to very advanced college students in traditional classic way. I taught big string classes and private lessons in different levels. I was assistant professor in University of Mississippi for ten years and taught applied cello and string Bass lessons. Many of my students went to further professional studies and started their music career. And also, I have many students who went to other majors in college but still keeping very active in the area of music, playing community orchestra, start their own private chamber music group, become very positive part of their community. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More

I teach combination of the Suzuki method and the Hungarian style (stressing the natural, comfortable, painless, tension free method). For young students, the Suzuki method is great, since the repertoire is all fun! Also the CD that comes with every level is vital! Children enjoy and benefit from that. I am an audiophile, so I can set up students with a quality hifi system on the cheap - this is so vital in Suzuki method, as he stated in his book, Nurtured With Love. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I maintain an active career as an orchestral, chamber, and freelance musician. In addition to performing regularly as a guest violist at the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and Pacific Symphony, I held a section position in the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and served as principal of the Verbier (Switzerland) and Lake George (New York) Music Festival Orchestras and PRISMA Academy Orchestra (Canada.) As a soloist and an active chamber music artist, I gave a solo viola premier at National Sawdust (Brooklyn, NY), and viola recitals in Manchester Music Festival Winter House Series (Stratton Mountain, VT) Piano on Park (New York), Fordham University Church (Bronx, NY) and Percy Grainger Society (White Plains, NY). For young students, I use a Suzuki Method hybrid, meaning I incorporate additional note-reading and music theory elements while using the Suzuki Violin books and Suzuki's core values of imitation and ear training. I also supplement with many pieces outside of the Suzuki Method, including folk, blues, fiddle, and other styles. As students progress I include traditional etudes, technique studies and scales. My ultimate goal is to give my students all the tools they need to play and learn pieces on their own, and to that end I ensure they fully comprehend and master each step of learning before introducing new concepts. I believe music is a gift that unites people together bringing out our deepest emotions that words cannot express. At the age of 5 I received an organ and from that point on I embarked on a long life journey to indulge and learn more about music. In elementary, junior high and high school I was involved in any subject dealing with music. I joined school choirs, orchestras, bands, marching bands, jazz bands, musicals you name it. Read More
