I like to emphasize fundamentals, especially if a student is just beginning. I believe a strong foundation makes it easier as they progress. For all instruments I always have my students prepare both technical exercises and solo material. I always emphasize historical context to bring the music to life. I also like to teach the music theory side of music, explaining chords, sequences and progressions. I begain teaching as a band assistant in college. I would lead sectionals and work with students who where struggiling one on one. As I gained experiance my role and responsibly grew and I began to run rehearsals and plan for concerts. One aspect of lessons that I emphasise is musicality. Often I will ask my students to listen to the song that they are working on or watch the movie or tv show it comes from because it is important to hear and see the bigger picture. Read More

Teaching music is one of the most rewarding experiences, and I thoroughly enjoy it. I believe that studying diverse styles of music is very important. I encourage my students to listen to all kinds of music outside of their own genre, as having different influences creates a more well rounded musician. Inspiration and motivation are huge factors when it comes to private teachers.
