During my employment with Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts and Education (in Wilson, NC) where I introduced a marching band program and lead the band to winning second place in the Music in the Parks competition in May of 2015. During my internship I was able to develop a percussion line with the students in under a month. The formation and level of proficiency of the percussion section was so astonishing that administrators, staff, other teachers, and even the principal dropped in from time to time just to hear the progression of the ensemble. My teaching style is very analytical yet engaging! I try to establish a good relationship before pushing a student. At that point I will ask the student to play to the best of his/her ability. I teach in a style that helps children isolate problem areas, so that they can practice specific excerpts they are struggling with. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education from Towson University and have spent years working with musicians both inside and outside the classroom. I've taught students from elementary school through adulthood and served as the Head Brass Instructor for the Calvert Hall Competition Marching Band for nearly a decade. During that time, I've worked with students in a program that has earned 5 National Championships and 16 State Championships. I'm also an active performer with ensembles including the Endless Mountain Music Festival Orchestra and Quintet, Reisterstown Jazz Band, and Bachelor Boys Band, along with other ensembles throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Most of my experience with teaching has taken place while traveling on the road and helping individuals prepare for recording sessions. However for more than 10 years now, I've rendered my services at neighborhood schools (elementary and high school); music workshops; private homes; and local churches; working with young people as an assistant teacher, private music teacher and/ or teaching artist.
