He would socialize with me more than other autistic students I'd worked with, which definitely facilitated instruction, but to get the most out of that, I had to stay on subject matter that sparked not just his interest but his joy, on a constantly rotating basis. Example trumpet books for intermediate student: Arban Clarke Sachs Schlossberg Stamp Charlier Vizzutti Bai Lin Irons etc I encourage students to find music they would like to play, even if they aren't able to play immediately. As a trumpet player with 13+ years of experience performing, recording, and learning from many mentors of different backgrounds, I know how difficult and frustrating the trumpet can be.
