For the younger beginning students, I usually start with Alfred's Beginning Piano Series. Once the student has a grasp of the fundementals, I will begin introducing major and minor scales as well as solo repertoire. For my adult students I will see their level of ability and musical interests, find appropriate material based on their taste and formulate the lesson to include fun stuff as well as build proper mechanics.  For my horn lessons depending on the skill level I being with Essential Elements or the Arban book and build from there incorporating solos of the greats, and songs that they want to learn to play. As I mentioned in the "about me" section, I served as principal horn with Държавна опера Стара Загора (the Bulgarian State Opera in Stara Zagora) from late 2017 to the very end of 2019, right before the pandemic hit. Before that, from 2016-2017, I taught public school for the first (and last) time in Natoma, Kansas, acting as the band, choir, and advanced music instructor. With beginning students, I start with the fundamentals of the instrument, including embouchure and finger technique, as well as the ability to breathe properly, which is fundamental to playing any wind instrument.  I also introduce beginning students to basic musical concepts, such as reading music, and tailor the musical selection to their tastes or to whatever group they are playing in, most often a school band class.  For more advanced students, I observe what areas the student needs the most work in and tailor the lessons specifically to dealing with those areas, as well as catering to their individual musical tastes. For beginners I like to start with Essential Elements 2000, although this book isn't specifically written with trumpet in mind, I do I want to get students making music as soon as possible and EE 2000 is a great start. As students advance I use some of the standard trumpet method books such as - Clarke Technical Studies, Arbans Complete Method for Trumpet, I also write out exercises that can't be found in books but feel will help the student progress.
