For beginning brass players, my favorite method for individual instruction in the "Breeze Easy" method, by John Kinyon. These books have fun and engaging entry-level pieces for students to play. Once students have gone through each book and developed certain fundamental skills, I will encourage them to move on to more advanced books such as the Arban's "Complete Method", and Robert Getchell's "2nd Book of Practical Studies". Arban's has a great combination of fundamental exercises such as scale studies and vocalizes, but also has entertaining solos and duets toward the back of the book. Read More

I played clarinet with the Auburn Chamber Orchestra and the flute and piano as a soloist for community events, weddings and church services. So I like to make sure that I'm always challenging them but never pushing them too hard, helping them get better at their own pace.
