I am a person who believes in teaching music to all ages. Through teaching I am hoping that I inspire students to follow their dreams on trying to achieve their goals in life. As a teacher I hope to gain the trust of my students by being the person that can help them progress forward in a chosen music career. I take pride in what I do. Hopefully I can encourage others to do the same.
Dan M is a freelance musician and private lesson instructor in the Chicago area. Born in the Chicago suburbs, Dan graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Music in euphonium performance, and traveled to Colorado where he earned a Master of Music in trombone performance at the University of Colorado at Boulder. As an active musician, he has performed on trombone, and euphonium in many musical groups ranging form wind ensembles and orchestras to brass quintets and other chamber groups. Dan M was also a member of the Flatirons Brass Quintet at the University of Colorado, which toured to Beijing, China in May of 2011, and placed in the semi-finals of the internationally known Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in May of 2012.
I have experience teaching with Standards of Excellence as well as Essential Elements, though I am very open to crafting an individualized curricula for students. When planning lessons, I aim to provide students with 1) music to practice from a variety of genres and styles, 2) music that will challenge them in a variety of ways, and 3) creating/composing exercises and etudes that will help the student focus on particular weaknesses in their playing (I have often used music notation software to create individualized etudes for students).
I am an eager and energetic teacher who takes pride in maintaining a busy musical schedule, both actively performing and teaching, and being able to use my wide range of experience to be a more effective instructor in my personal studio. I moved here to Chicago in 2008 from my hometown of Wichita, KS to study with Matt Lee and Tage Larsen at DePaul, and later graduated with a bachelor's degree in trumpet performance in 2012. Since then I have have many opportunies to play a truly wide variety of music all over the city, from swing music at the Green Mill, countless streetfests playing hip-hop, salsa, soul, and R&B, performing at Chicago Blackhawks hockey games at the United Center, a symphony orchestra at symphony center, big band music at the Jazz Showcase, and many other shows at venues like Lincoln hall and the Double Door. I believe that having a background in classical music, but having a wealth of experience in as many other styles of music as possible make me uniquely qualified as a music teacher, especially one that can get students of all ages excited about playing music.

The teachers in our network can create a custom lesson and technique plan for each student. For the most part, lessons will focus on learning how to hold and care for the instrument, and prepare it for playing. Students will also focus on mouth position, breath support and the location of the valves. Sight reading along with music theory will also be taught.
Children are recommended to start the trumpet at age 7 or 8. A student needs to be able to hold and support the weight of the instrument for extended periods, and have enough lung capacity to support the sound as well.
A trumpet has several parts: the rim, the cup, the mouthpiece, the shank, the lead pipe, the valve, and the valve casings. Make sure all the parts of the trumpet are in good condition. If you're unfamiliar with the instrument it's best to ask an expert or a store employee. Prices for trumpets can vary so it is important to have a budget in mind when shopping around. Usually students will rent the instrument for some time before purchasing. When trying out trumpets many students chose to bring their own mouthpiece, as this is the most personal part of the trumpet.
In home trumpet lessons are extremely convenient for both parents and students. Studying in home is no different than studying in a studio. Lessons are generally once a week, however the student and instructor would determine the best frequency based on the student's abilities and goals.
We love adult students! We have adults who begin trumpet lessons as complete beginners, some who haven't played their trumpet in over 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. The teachers in our network have proven methods to get you the results you desire.

Andrew is very encouraging and uplifting, but also isn't afraid to tell you your weaknesses. Andrew also is super awesome with scheduling. Fits around your schedule all the time. He really knows what he is doing and can help you reach your goal in the time you would like to. Couldn't have gotten a better teacher, who continually helps me grow and pushes me.

I have been playing the drums for about 5 years and I have to say that Alvaro is very patient. He has opened me up to new styles of music and I can now play a Songo groove! What I liked most was that he was flexible in what I wanted him to teach me and would also bring in new material specifically to what I wanted him to show me. Overall, great patient teacher and would highly recommend! Thanks Alvaro!

I am a beginning guitar player that has now taken five lessons with Jeff. I cannot speak highly enough of Jeff has a guitar teacher! I have learned more in five lessons than the months I spent trying to learn on my own. Jeff has introduced me to music apps that I can use during my practice sessions, followed up our lessons with comments and/or music, is very encouraging - yet holds high standards. During my lessons I feel that Jeff is very observant and tuned in to your positioning when playing - whether it be your wrist, your arm, or your fingers. He always offers recommendations on ways to try to fix something that I might be struggling with. He really pays attention. As an aside, Jeff is a very talented songwriter and musician. Check him out on YouTube. His songs are very beautiful and inspirational. I'm honored to be his student! - Linda

Travis is an extremely knowledgeable guitarist and teacher. Travis is equally comfortable in playing/teaching jazz, rock, blues, or classical styles. I really like the way he explains things and he has the ability to make difficult material seem simpler. Travis is very likeable, enthusiastic, and always very professional. I think Travis would be great teaching either children or adults because he's very patient. My learning experience with Travis has been outstanding. He taught me some great techniques for chord substitution and for soloing. I'll continue to work with Travis because he inspires me to be a better guitarist. I think he could really help me with composing because he writes some great songs too! Thanks Travis!

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! She has a knack for taking the material and translating it in a way that is relatable to Isabella. My daughter really enjoys her lesson's and has moved along rather quickly with the material. Thanks Lilly!

David is not only a great musician and educator but also a delightful human. We began using David six years ago as a piano teacher for my two boys. Since then my eldest moved on to acoustic and electric guitar and my youngest electric and stand up bass. Somewhere along the way I began to take guitar lessons also (I was David's most bearded student at age 48). David always came prepared to lead but also to follow, he often asked what we were listening to and taught us how to play it. His ability to listen to a piece of music and transcribe it always left me amazed, we have several notebooks full of songs we learned individually or played as a group. After a shoulder injury David continued to impress by teaching me music theory instead of our usual lesson. I could go on forever, David made a positive impact on my family and feel fortunate to have met him.

I am in my 60s and decided to get back into playing my guitar. I thought taking lessons would be a good way to formalize the endeavor. I did have some concern about whether working with a teacher would work out as I've behave only played for my own enjoyment for a long time. Peter and I have had a few lessons together and I am truly enjoying the experience. He is very supportive and flexible. We arrived at a three gold approach that is really working for me. We focus on developing a playlist, learning some of the more iconic tunes from leading artist that I would have a hard time learning on my own and developing some technical skills related to style and music theory. Now I look forward to my next lesson and am already playing better and enjoying the journey. Peter is a great teacher I'm lucky to have the opportunity to work with him.

We've only had a few lessons with Elisa, but so far we really like her. She has a lot of great suggestions for solo pieces as well as orchestral music that involves all 3 of my boys, while also including some Christian music that we can play at church. She is very patient in explaining the lessons and encouraging!

Henry has been a great piano teacher since I started lessons about a month ago, and he is helping me realize a lifelong dream. He is patient, plays beautifully, is easy to learn from and a very nice person. I took lessons as a child for a year or so, but never followed up over the years. I always said that I would once I retired and found the right instructor. That time is now. Thank you Henry and Musika!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
