I begin by assessing each student's level, as well as their needs and desires, and then form a plan of action to address those needs. If the student has deficiencies in a specific area I usually try to tackle this first, especially if it affects their overall ability to make a good sound, articulate efficiently, or play with ease. My method varies for every student but I have a very specific plan for each level of experience. Beginners would focus on essential elements books and beginner packets that cover basics and also have rewarding solo pieces. More advanced students would focus on scales and long tones with etudes for fundamentals and repertoire for solo playing and performances. Aside from vocal music, I also played in the wind ensemble on trumpet and had my own funk outfit outside of classes to fullfill my own creative direction. After graduating in the Winter of '11 I moved to Colorado to find a better audience for the funk, jazz and fusion music that I have personally gravitated towards. I've played most of the major venues in Denver, Boulder and the Front Range opening for giants like Victor Wooten and John Medeski, and currently am pursuing my Masters this upcoming Fall for Jazz Composition.
