When planning lessons, I aim to provide students with 1) music to practice from a variety of genres and styles, 2) music that will challenge them in a variety of ways, and 3) creating/composing exercises and etudes that will help the student focus on particular weaknesses in their playing (I have often used music notation software to create individualized etudes for students). Hello. I am a graduate of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign holding my Bachelors in Music Education and looking for opportunities to teach lessons to students. I specialized on the Euphonium in college and have extensive knowledge of the low brass family, but can teach all brasses. To me, the key element for a successful learning experience is to engage the student in the lesson and during their individual practice. I have battled with ADHD my whole life and I distinctly remember daydreaming during many of my classes in college, retaining little-to-no information. It is very difficult to engage with a topic as complex as music, but it is crucial to absorb every second. I have been teaching private lessons for 7 years part-time, and have been consistently teaching students full time for the last 3 and half years. I have taught at the prestigious Dallas School of Music, in Dallas, TX, and now am excited to join the Musika team. I have a strong foundation in classical and non-classical genres, so I've enjoyed teaching students of all skills levels, from 4 year old piano students, to 70 year old voice students, with many others in between.
