After a few months, I begin adding solo repertoire that is appropriate for age and ability. For middle school age students and adults, I start with Alfred's Basic Piano, Adult, Level 1. After they have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire and etudes for their first recital performance. I'm adamant about learning exercises from the "Arbans Book". This book is essential the brass bible that teaches proper fundamental techniques while developing reading skills. We will extensively on flexibility and scales through out all stages of development as well as intonation on the instrument. My teaching experience began in college, when I gave private lessons to students either first starting out on low brass instruments, or high school students that were attempting to prepare for auditions within their programs or for college. I recently assisted a student with his college auditions and he gained admittance to West Chester University on Euphonium and also went on to perform with the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle corps.
