I have two main philosophies I base my teaching method on, regardless of age, skill level, or genre. 1) Fundamentals are extremely important, and 2) Music is an aural experience. To expand on my first point; a tree is only as strong as its roots. If a player has a strong understanding of the building blocks of music, the sky is the limit. I begin every lesson going over these fundamentals in some way. Read More

My private teaching experience began during my latter years in high school working with beginners. During college, I had a few high school students that I taught when they were preparing for auditions. I believe that students should enjoy what they're doing to keep interest levels high, so I encourage them to select appropriate music they will enjoy studying along with the material that is necessary for technique and development. I am Alex K., a trumpet performer and teacher born and raised in Orlando, FL. I have been playing the trumpet for 10 years, performing all around the United States and in several cities in East Asia. My love for music and the trumpet began with a strong passion for jazz and classical literature in middle school. This passion led to countless hours of practice and curiosity, eventually culminating in winning the concerto competition for the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras at 18 years old. Read More

As a teacher, I like to focus on each students needs as becoming a well rounded musician. I like to work from a few method books including Arbans, Rubank, and Schlossberg for building up your embouchere as a trumpet player. We will focus in on technique, embouchere building, jazz improvisation, and music theory. I always encourage my students that if there is a piece of music they would like to learn, bring it to the lesson and we will work on it. Read More

I started teaching trumpet in my Senior year of high school. As I contiued into college I learned a great deal from some of the best trumpet players in the world. I had the great pleasure of studying under Allen Vizzutti while completing my degree from the Univeristy of Washington. Gaining knowledge from great players only inspired me more to pass it onto ALL my students. Playing trumpet and making music have to be fun and enjoyable. Read More

I can teach many instruments that I have taught myself how to play well and efficiently. I play in many bands and I am always learning new styles of music. My best instruments are Piano, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Guitar, Percussion, Harmonica, Recorder, Tin Whistle, Mandolin and also Trumpet. My secondary instruments are everything else. I can fool around on Violin, Cello, Banjo and Trombone as an amateur. I could blow into a Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, French Horn and probably anything else I can get my hands on, but I would not feel comfortable teaching them yet because I don't have enough time in the world to learn them and figure out how to play them myself and get as good as I can on those instruments. It's important to set realistic goals, I will assign short things to work on per week. I can tailor my instruction to the needs of any student by listening to their wants and needs. Everyone progresses at their own pace, so remaining patient and being able to work together to become successful is key! I find that sometimes it is best to find out from the student what makes them most excited about playing the instrument. Read More
