I have taught students that are ABSOLUTE beginners, and I have taught students that are almost ready to become professionals. One thing that remains the same throughout is that I try to discover what my student is trying to gain from my guidance. I ALWAYS will look for what I can offer the student, inside and out of the lesson studio. When you take me on as a teacher, not only am I an open book for you while in lessons, I am someone that you can text/call anytime if you are getting frustrated, and I am someone that you can invite to your first gig! Depending on how experienced the student is, I make sure to gauge where they are at regarding music theory and music history. Although the main goal of learning an instrument is to learn how to express yourself through music, it is important to understand how we can do that by having a solid understanding of theory and history. I've found that teaching students on a week-by-week basis through exercises that I create for them has been very successful, especially since a lot of method books are very limiting, and they expect every student to be starting out with the same baseline. I am very flexible in my method; My Teaching Style is relax. I let the student decide what they want to learn. This is the best way to keep each student motivated and improving their technique. I let the student learn at their own pace. Each student will get a Professional tailor made lesson. That is the biggest advantage of a private lesson. I will teach you all I know. Read More

The teaching methods I use will depend on the student. Each is different. I want them to thrive. I want to teach music because music is a language anyone can learn. It is a language that can overcome politics, tragedies, race, creed, theology, and borders. Music can be a great equalizer and an even greater friend. It touches the soul and mind in ways that we as human beings are still trying to comprehend. Read More

With the trumpet it is extremely important to avoid developing bad habits and to implement proper technique in order for appropriate muscle memory to set in. At any level it is important to ensure that proper technique is understood and implemented. These techniques take a personal touch from a seasoned professional to assess and explain. To further develop a solid foundation of sound fundamentals I work incrementally out of the Arban's Clark technique books. (As well as others) These books cover all aspects of a fundamentally sound trumpet player in an enjoyable way with progressively more challenging exercises. Read More

I began teaching during my undergrauate years at Rutgers. I began my teaching experience at Stokes State Forest Music Camp, in which I was able to coach small chamber groups, band and orchestra sectionals, music theory, as well as one-on-one instruction. I still teach there every summer, and the skill level and work ethic continues to improve every year. In 2010 I was placed in Edison High School for my student teaching assignment. Read More

Here are the things that I want to impart to my piano students in their first 10 weeks of lessons: That I love music and I love teaching them That music lessons are creative and exploratory That creating music is fun and easy That music can tell stories That music is more than pushing down keys That music is art and involves dynamics, speed, feeling, etc. That singing and moving to music is just a part of how we do things in music education That playing the piano the right way (ie. with the right technique) is really important The importance of understanding, feeling and moving to meter (duple/triple) The concept of home, tonic/dominant tonalities and being able to hear and create bass lines That music is made up of chords, patterns, and melodies That they can transpose music into different keys I use Alfred Piano Method, it also dives into intervallic reading, as described above.
