I have been playing trumpet since the fifth grade, with three years of piano prior to that. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Instrumental Music Education, K-12, with minors in Jazz and Performance. I love music, whether it be playing it or teaching it, and it's what I see myself doing for the rest of my life. I am a music-loving performer and instructor living in Philadelphia, PA. I have played trumpet principally for thirteen years, and I also play the drums, bass guitar, ukulele, and trombone. I have been fortunate to perform over 1,800 professional commitments in my career as well as teaching roughly 25 students. I have been singing and playing music all my life, but my instrumental music career began in 1994 when I was handed my first Baritone Horn. Little did I know that i'd spend the next 30 years explaining what a baritone (or euphonium) was to my friends and family. If I am staring an elementary student from scratch who is not involved in a school band program I like to use Claude Gordon's "Physical Aproach to Elementary Brass Playing." For middle school through college level players I use the same list of materials, but introduce them in stages as the student progresses though their development. Read More
