I have had a long and wonderful career as a music educator and am now retired, but my passion for teaching music is still strong. I recently moved from Upstate NY to Fort Mill, SC and am excited to open a studio in my new home. My background is in instrumental music and choral/ classroom. It has been a delight to be involved in both band and choral musical activities. Read More

I have taught private Drum Major lessons and high school clinics to young students across Western and Central North Carolina. During the summer of 2019, I was honored to be an instructor at the Lenoir-Rhyne Youth Summer Music Camp, where I taught musicianship/theory and woodwinds. I currently student teach for partial fulfillment for my Master's degree at Hickory High School (Hickory, NC). I have held previous positions of visual caption head and drum major technician at Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, NC. Read More

For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. Particularly for college-bound musicians who wish to major in music, the majority of their lessons will be based on preparing solo literature for All District or college auditions. Read More

I am a young aspiring student just like those that I teach and, therefore I enjoy having fun and keeping the student engaged as I understand how hard it is to focus when beginning to play an instrument like the trumpet which may seems mundane at first. My main quote for success is to,"aim for the moon and if you fail you will land among the stars." I encourage my students to set goals that may be a little outside of their comfort zone, but I will never set a goal that is outside the level of achievement for a specific students skills. For beginning brass players, my favorite method for individual instruction in the "Breeze Easy" method, by John Kinyon. These books have fun and engaging entry-level pieces for students to play. Once students have gone through each book and developed certain fundamental skills, I will encourage them to move on to more advanced books such as the Arban's "Complete Method", and Robert Getchell's "2nd Book of Practical Studies". Arban's has a great combination of fundamental exercises such as scale studies and vocalizes, but also has entertaining solos and duets toward the back of the book. Read More

I believe that music should be a satisfying endeavor. Learning music should be a great balance of having fun in the moment, and the joy of seeing oneself grow and progress as an artist over time. I meet each and every student at their own level, wherever that may be, and help them grow. I like to talk to each student or parent about their goals in music with the understanding that many have very different goals. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
