I also maintained a small lesson studio consisting throughout my time at the University of Iowa. Those lessons were driven heavily by the interests of my students. I had one student trying to prepare for a collegiate music major audition, I had one with interest in becoming a composer, and a more casual student whose ultimate goal was to gain enough skills to lead music in church worship services. I began my musical journey since before grade school, learning piano and other percussive instruments. I immediately took a strong liking towards music and followed it through all my years in school, learning brass instruments and refining my practices along the way. in 2018, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Performance. Along with over 4 years of teaching, I've had the experience of touring and performing in various venues around the country and across multiple genres, such as performing with orchestras in Boston Symphony Hall, as well as performing with popular reggae artists in Los Angeles venues. It depends on the age of the student, but there are plenty of method books and pieces that can both teach a student music theory and notation, as well as their performance skill. With beginners its perfect to start with the Rubank series from Beginner-Intermediate. Many students are given the "Standard of Excellence" series by their school teacher and that series works as well. I believe these books are a great start, but can get old fast. Read More
