For my string students I teach music theory only if requested, as many don't have access to pianos/keyboards at home so they can understand harmony, chord progressions etc. Without a keyboard understanding harmonic progressions can be very challenging. Experience has taught me that the joy of music comes only to those who get a solid foundation and knowledge. Many students begin with great enthusiasm, only to get frustrated after a while when they find themselves stuck year after year with beginner level music. Read More

I graduated from Longy School of Music of Bard College with a Master's Degree in violin performance. At Longy School of Music of Bard College, I studied with world-class violinist and conductor, Dr. Sean Wang, as well as Grammy nominated violinist Jesse Mills, the co-founder of the Horszowski Trio. During my two years of conservatory education at Longy School of Music of Bard College, I received systematic training in pitch, European written theory, score reading and conducting; Read More

It's all about awareness, listening and sharing a love of playing. I love to play with my students, but also acknowledge the intensity of sitting back, watching, listening and internalizing the student. I am keenly aware of time and intend to cover all that was given as the last lesson plan (home practice) while forming a new plan for the next lesson. I always include something akin to a new "trick" that is easy to remember and will give back satisfaction. Read More

I started playing the violin when i was 5 years old, I went to Hamilton Country Day School in Attleboro MA as a child where violin was part of the curriculum. I was lucky enough to be the Concert master in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in the Prep Strings section when i was 10 years old. I don't have prior experience teaching students, but i have almost 20 years of experience playing, and look forward to sharing what knowledge, and passion for music i have with students of all ages. I have been teaching private lessons for about 2 years, both for a company and privately. These lessons include beginner piano, voice, and violin. In my music therapy internship I have also had the experience of teaching adaptive piano, guitar, and ukulele lessons. Finally, while I am not yet board certified and cannot offer music therapy until next school year, I have over 1,000 hours of music therapy clinical experience in which I use musical activities to help clients achieve non-musical goals in the areas of cognition, emotion, physical abilities, communication, social skills and academics. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I have been teaching for over five years, taking on students as young as 5 and as young as 65. ;) I have taught both privately, in duos, and in larger groups. My teaching experience has been very multi-faceted. For one student, I'll be teaching a Bach Minuet, and for the next it could be a Lord of The Rings excerpt! I like to emphasize the importance of practice and playing your instrument on a regular basis to accelerate progress. Read More
