Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. If a student in toddlerhood/childhood shows that they have a preferred way to express themselves musically, I will tailor lessons around the Kodaly (voice), Orff (instrumental), or Dalcroze (dance) philosophies. I've been teaching privately since I was in high school when I taught beginner trombone and euphonium to middle school and junior high students. I love teaching because it is absolutely incredible watching a beginner blossom into a passionate and talented musician and being there every step of the way to watch their growth. Music is supposed to be fun, so I try to make the lesson experience as enjoyable for the student as possible all while still providing them with a solid education. Read More

My Music teaching experience dates back to my Junior High School days, being only 14 years old, as I began teahing other students who played and performed in school, along with me, and also instructed some of their younger siblings. Encouraing regular practice on a consistent daily basis, is one of the key points that I emphasize to all of my students, as it produces student progress and aquisation of essential Musical literature. My teaching experience began in high school when my band director gave me the opportunity to teach lessons to some students at the middle school. When I went to college, this passion for teaching lessons grew as I was fortunate enough to have a small studio through the help of my college professor. As a teacher, I encourage regular practice on a consistent schedule for my younger students, encouraging them that individual practice is their time to learn more about their own instrument and gain a passion for music through performance. My particular brand of brass pedagogy has roots that trace back to the Chicago Symphony's legendary Bud Herseth. I believe in the pursuit of mastery of many of the basic techniques of brass playing - air movement, flexibility, and tone are the most important pieces of what we do as brass players, and I have collected an arsenal of exercises to build skill in these areas. I use a collection of techniques from a wide range of trumpet players from Ray Mase to Allen Vizzutti to Michael Sachs and will use these approaches to define musical outlook and technique. Read More

I am a passionate music educator who is always looking for new ways to challenge myself and grow as a teacher. I am a recent graduate of the Crane school of music at SUNY Potsdam. Here I majored in both trombone performance and music education. Getting to teach young students and play across various groups on Long Island has been incredibly rewarding this past year, and I am still looking for ways to expand my horizons. Read More
