Since 2012 I worked as an ear-training tutor and private piano instructor during my undergraduate years. I used Kodaly method for ear-training tutoring and helped many college students improve and achieve their goal in their classes. I taught age 4 - 12 children piano until 2014. After I moved to the city, I started teaching music theory and piano privately since last summer. Everything we do on stage begins with breath. Sing, Acting, Dancing- all of these require disciplined breath management. Once a strong foundation of good breathing is laid, I tend to use visual-spacial prompts to get the singer to feel the changes rather than use pedagogical terminology. While this is a wonderful set of tools, I will always defer to the student's learning style. This means breathing and vocal mechanics and how to achieve great singing w great technique! Repertoire’ is important, and we spend a lot of the lesson w application of technique in song. While I work with all students to build a solid technical cello foundation, I want my students to play and immerse themselves in the pieces and music they love most so that they stay inspired to explore the cello. WIth the understanding that everyone has different aspirations and expectations, I teach students with the hope that they are all comfortable challenging themselves, learning from making mistakes, and are ultimately happy with their musical progress.
