When planning lessons, I aim to provide students with 1) music to practice from a variety of genres and styles, 2) music that will challenge them in a variety of ways, and 3) creating/composing exercises and etudes that will help the student focus on particular weaknesses in their playing (I have often used music notation software to create individualized etudes for students). I have been teaching part-time for the last nine years. My passion for teaching comes from the amazing tutelage that I received as a young musician. The methods I use to teach depend on a number of factors. For enrolled in beginner band at their school, I will use whichever method their school is using. If the school is not using a specific method, I use the Rubank method supplemented with my own materials. For more advanced players I assign various etude books, jazz play along books, and method books based on the students needs. I provide all the materials for my beginning piano students for the first few months, then assign method books based on the student's interests. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student have an ah-ha! moment, and it is my passion to help students reach and exceed their goals in the most enjoyable way for them. I realize all students learn differently, so I have experience with starting beginners on a strict fundamental basis, starting them on figuring out a favorite song on their instrument for fun, and generally helping them in a unique way that suits them best.
