I know that most of my young students are in their school's band program, so I use a combination of whatever method books they use there plus my own supplemental materials I have found to be effective over years of teaching. If students are preparing for events like All-Region/All-District auditions or a Solo Festival, I spend plenty of time helping them with that. For other students, I have several books of progressive etudes, includes Bordner's Books of Practical Studies and Sparke's Skilful Studies. Read More

I'm a passionate and driven young musician eager to share the knowledge and experience I have and grow with others through teaching. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree in Bass Trombone Performance at New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts, studying under James Markey, bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. I have performed around the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, Spain, France, and Massachusetts, in great halls like the Meyerson Symphony Center and Tanglewood's Seiji Ozawa Hall. Read More

I began teaching lessons in college, and have enjoyed it from the very first day. I try to evaluate each student spefifically and see what they need to improve in the most efficient manner possible. Exercises and drills are present in my lessons, but I alwaystry to teach the bulk of trumpet fundamentals through actual music such as etudes, solos, band music, duets, etc. In this style of teaching, the students can pick what they want to play (after I give them a few guidelines), and we can still target the areas of playing that need work. I have a lifelong passion for music, with my passion being in drumming and percussion but having a great deal of experience in trombone and a strong knowledge of guitar as well. I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2008 with Honors in Music. I have just recently traveled to Ghana for a 10-month trip to study traditional drumming, Afrobeat drum set style, and more. I also traveled to Ghana in the summers of 2007 and 2008 on grants through Wesleyan allowing me to study traditional drumming more in depth from master drummers there. Read More

For young beginners, I make use the method book that is being used at their school as well as supplying materials specifically for their instrument. As the student progresses, he/she will be introduced to solo repertoire as well advance method books for recital and competitive purposes. The objective is keep the student challenged but at the same time making sure the lessons are enjoyable. For intermediate and advanced students, I use the school curriculum at the school they happen to attend to meet the requirements of the music program. Read More

I like to encourage the students to work on fundamentals. To make this not too dull, I use pop music to help them understand the pitches and rhythm, then work on sound by singing and playing. These will allow students to have a solid foundation and easy to develop further in the future. Listening is the central part of success; this helps with music styles, tone production, and interpreting the music to what composers want. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trombone
When learning to play an instrument, I believe it is important to start at a slow pace to make sure students comprehend all of the musical elements. To all of my students, I will treat them with kindness and honesty. Honesty is important as a teacher because my goal is to help students find where they can grow and show them ways to do so. For all of my students, I expect them to practice each day and put all of their attention to refining their art. Read More
