I am a very dedicated and caring music teacher with 23 years of experience. I have taught students of all ages from early elementary school to senior citizens. All of my NYSSMA participating students have received scores of excellent or outstanding in Grades 1-4, and in the 90's on Levels 5 and 6. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for student, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has a grasp on the fundamentals of performance, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital or NYSSMA solo. After the student moves on from basic method books, I introduce more trombone-specific books such as Arban's Trombone Method Book and Rochut's Melodious Etudes for trombone. For adults, I like to find out what kind of music they want to play and plan my lesson accordingly to skill level. Read More

In 2023, I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Music in Performance, and I am currently pursuing my Master of Music in Classical Trumpet at the Manhattan School of Music. Aquiles Navarro is a New York-based trumpeter, composer and DJ of Panamanian heritage. He derives his sounds from folkloric music, salsa, and reggae. This eclectic music background, based on his upbringing in Panama has led him to collaborate with folkloric musicians, dancers, visual artists, actors, and poets. He studied in Panama with tenor player Carlos Garnett and trumpeter Victor “Vitin” Paz. After moving to the US, he received a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance at the New England Conservatory, and a Master’s degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he studied with trumpeter Brian Lynch.
