From there, I earned a Graduate Certificate in Trombone Performance from the University of Central Arkansas in 2020. Finally in May 2023, I earned my Master of Music in Trombone Performance with a secondary area in Music Education. While at Baylor, I was a member of the trombone studio under Brent Phillips. I played in all the instrumental ensembles avaliable to play in as a trombonist. I also studied piano as my secondary instrument in college. I graduated in 2011 from SMU with my music degree in Trumpet Performance, and have been teaching privately in the Dallas area ever since. Although while at SMU my focus was mainly on orchestral playing and classical techniques, I am equally comfortable playing jazz and commercial styles, and honestly probably play those styles just as much as I do orchestral work now. My goal with my students is always to see them enjoy themselves while growing as musicians. I want to know what inspires my students and what they strive for as well, though it's always okay if they can't answer that immediately. Learning an instrument is a journey. I believe that the most important part of my teaching style is positive reinforcement. The most successful teachers and mentors that I know or have studied with readily acknowledge a student's strengths and are not afraid of letting them know when they are proud of their students. After thirty years I still love to play and talk about music! I've added more instruments to my skillset over the years just so I can write and create more music out of my home studio.
