I am a University of North Texas graduate. I studied with Jim Riggs and Dr. Eric Nestler and played in the top lab bands and classical ensembles while attending school. I later moved to NYC where I started my professional playing career. I lived there for 14 years playing with several music ensembles and studied with Bill Blount on clarinet and Lorrie Glaze on piano. With 30 years of woodwind teaching experience, I have taught all levels from elementary students to college and beyond! I encourage regular practice schedules of a half an hour five times a week. I have developed 15 practical practice techniques that are fun and advance the student at a steady pace. Also, I encourage my students to perform in small recitals biannually. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the lesson books you or I provide, preferably Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I then moved on to teach six years at public high schools in Texas, and then I moved on to teaching at the University level. Throughout that time I have always had a private studio as well.
