As not all students will have the desire to become professional musicians, the ultimate goal is to build lifelong lovers of the arts...and if the student decides that music is a career, then the lessons are geared accordingly. For over 25 years, I have taught group and private music lessons in public schools, studios, colleges, pre-schools and seniors. I have a graduate degree in music where I studied teacher research, global music, community arts, and students with special needs. I started my music studies in flute and I teach flute lessons for any playing level. If a student is 3rd grade or younger, I offer the recorder as an introductory instrument to all wind instruments. I focus on the physical, lip strengh, arm and finger positions, and the correct breathing techniques. The mental and emotinal come with time and as the student grows these items will come naturally. I have also performed many solos at OMEA Solo and Ensemble. In 2015, I performed the class B piece Allegro by Antonio Vivaldi and received an excellent rating. In 2016, I performed the class A piece Concert Etude by Aleksandr Goedicke and received a superior rating. In 2017, I performed the class A piece Sonata (mvt. 2) by Eric Ewazen and received a superior rating.
