My lessons typically break down into three sections: Building Fundamental, Extending Techniques, and Making Music. How much time is spent on each of these is dependent on the individual student and what they need to develop most at that particular time. I always give students attainable goals for the next week, and a few long-term goals. I find these goals help keep the student on task from week to week and give them something to keep striving for. Reading music is emphasized in school ensembles, yet some students are reluctant to read music. I can accommodate students who'd rather learn exclusively by the aural tradition. When my student is eager to read I like to start with the Walter Beeler Method Book One. I supplement it with duets. Some students can work from the Rubank Supplementary Studies along with the Walter Beeler. Afterwards the Edwards-Hovey Method Book Two is very nice. Read More

I began teaching in Mississippi in 2011 to college students at the University of Southern Mississippi. After moving to Cincinnati, I began teaching preschool music. I began developing a preschool curriculum at the University of Cincinnati's Preparatory Program that combined reading, dancing, singing and imagining. After teaching privately for a year, I began my position as Executive Director of the Cincinnati Outreach (COR) Music Project. Our mission was to put music programs in schools that couldn't afford them on their own, particularly in urban areas around Walnut Hills. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
A musician from a musical family, I have been involved with music in one form or another since birth. Having taken piano lessons for several years beforehand, I finally started to play trumpet in middle school and have been playing ever since. In high school, I acted in school musicals, played in the band, directed the marching band as drum major, and was a member of the choir (of which my own mother was director, something that she swears wasn't on purpose). The most essential element of music is FUN. Naturally, all students meet challenges and frustrating situations. Because I have experienced this myself, I understand completely! I develop a unique approach with each of my students. I am very comfortable teaching voice, piano, and brass instruments. For all of my students, I am fully aware of the standard method books. However, in the past, I have made a special point of working from those books only until it's no longer necessary. Read More
