Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I am a beleiver that the solid foundation is the key to musical success. This foundation is broken down into 3 sections (mental, emotional and physical). I focus on the physical, lip strengh, arm and finger positions, and the correct breathing techniques. The mental and emotinal come with time and as the student grows these items will come naturally. The most importat item is to have fun, if your not having fun your intrest will fade. Read More

I began teaching privately as a high school student, working with begnning students at the middle school. I have taught privately in my home and in students' homes since graduating from college. Regular practice is very important and something I emphasize with my students. I like to include a mixture of classical and modern music in my lessons, so that students enjoy what they are learning and playing. If a student does not enjoy their time playing their instrument, they will not want to put the practice in and lessons will become a point of argument. Read More

My lessons typically break down into three sections: Building Fundamental, Extending Techniques, and Making Music. How much time is spent on each of these is dependent on the individual student and what they need to develop most at that particular time. I always give students attainable goals for the next week, and a few long-term goals. I find these goals help keep the student on task from week to week and give them something to keep striving for. In my lessons, I work hard to create a routine that best fits the students needs. This typically means that many of my students are not following a specific lesson plan or standard routine. Starting out, I stress fundamentals and warm-ups to help the students create a solid grasp of the instrument, before making the move towards solo repertoire. Of course, the older and more experience the student is will influence the difficulty of the routine, however, I always make sure that goals that I have set for a student are within reach. Read More

There are quite a few method books that I like to use with my students. To start, I like to have students use the Beginner Rubank Method Book (the blue book) and work through this to get the basics down. After this, I like to choose some supplemental solo pieces that aren't in this book to help the students grasp the concepts that they have been working on, outside of what is shown in the book.
