My teaching experience stems back to high school. When I was 14 I was recognized for my talent to help members of the Jr high and beginner band classes. Then when I was attending Miami University, I started my own studio of three high school trombone students; I did that for 2 years. Since then I have taught at dozens of band camps all across Ohio, I have taught in BGSUs Academy Band from 2017-2018, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestras Youth Wind Ensemble from 2014-2016. I have a very energetic and adaptable teaching style. Having worked with students from 3 years old to in their 30's, I can mold lessons to fit any type of attention span. I have also worked with students with special education needs and physical issues, so I can also work with parents to find ways for any student, regardless of their situation, to enjoy a life of music. For beginning brass students, I have used Essential Elements 2000, Standard of Excellence, and the Student Instrumental Course. As students become more capable, we move into method books and repertoire written specifically for their instrument. Lessons include a combination of mastering the physical challenges of the instrument and developing musicality. Music to be studied is chosen based on the needs of the student. With school-age students I assist with school concert music in addition to separate lesson materials.
