In 2011, I graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance and just this past May I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Masters degree in Music. For classical studies, there are some standard saxophone repertoire books I like to go to. For brand new students, I use Essential Elements books, for intermediate students I use Rubank method books, and for advanced students I use the Ferling etude book. For jazz studies, I begin students with Lenny Neihaus' Jazz Conception for Saxophone, which lays a great foundation for jazz and swing playing. One of my main goals in teaching young students is developing a keen sense of how to practice effectively. For teaching clarinet students who are beginners, I use the book authored by Texas Lutheran University clarinet professor, Paula Corley entitled "So You Want to Play the Clarinet". Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I usually move to the Rubank books because of their varied content. If the student is working with a school group, we will sometimes work on that repertoire, but improving technique in general is always my focus. Read More

For young students or beginners, I start with a lesson book such as Essential Elements or Accent on Achievement. Each of these methods series have multiple books that the student can progress through. Once they have reached a certain level of understanding, I will sprinkle in songs that they know and enjoy, such as Disney songs, pop songs, etc. For high school students, I start with famous repertoire for their instrument or more advanced pieces they are interested in. I am a student at Chatham University studying Vocal Performance, International studies with a focus in Africa, and minoring in Psychology. I am passionate about music, having learned 7 instruments on top of practicing voice, and love to share the knowledge that I have gained. I have been performing in plays and musicals, and as a soloist since 2009 and continue to do so today.
