In High School, my music practice skills carried over to my academic studies and I was able to graduate with Honors, a 4.00, and earn 14 scholarships to attend college to become a musicteacher. For beginning students who are children, I start with Rubank's Elementary Method book.  This will provide the student with the basic fundementals.  I will then introduce the student to a variety of solo repertoire for his or her instrument. I try to make my lessons as fun as possible so the child grows up with music as a fun, artistic outlet.  For students who already have knowledge on their instrument or who are adults, I aim to find what the student is interested in, and adjust my instruction accordingly. I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music.
