As a parent, I understand the importance of building up from foundations, and I illustrate that same dedication as I would with my own children through teaching music. I know that everyone learns at different paces, different styles, different ways. My goal is to individualize each musical teaching experience that best serves each student's needs. I meet students at their personal level, and we build from there. That allows for students to not only feel comfortable with the expectations set, but it allows for them to feel as if they can meet goals. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was 16 years old and started teaching students from the church that I played piano at. I've been teaching full time since I was 25 years old, and I love teaching. I believe students progress faster when they are learning to play their favorite songs, and are having fun with learning to play the piano. I also encourage students to learn to improvise and compose their own music by teaching them composition, harmony, rhythm, and practicing to backing tracks. Read More

I began teaching private lessons five years ago during my first year in college. I consistently taught privately, as well as in classroom settings in youth music programs in Boston. I also developed and taught courses in songwriting and music theory for teenagers. I encourage students to develop their age-appropriate practice routines, and support them in sticking with them. Sticking to a schedule helps the young musician build a relationship to their instrument. Read More

For beginning students, I teach the Rubank Method. For intermediate and advanced students, I teach the Frost School Jazz Method. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I create engaging lesson plans based on my students interests, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons fulfilling and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I work with Rubank or any method books provided by their band instructor. There will be supplemental materials, especially for more advanced students, that are instrument specific such as etudes and technical exercises. We will continue focusing on band literature, contemporary, classical, or solo literature depending on the goals of the students and their interests. While there are some general methods, it is best to meet the student where their needs are and tailor the specific methods to those needs. Read More

I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less.
