This helped me find new paths to play my music especially since rap stars started wearing my brand. Because of my celebrity status as a clothing designer I was able to attract upscale Chicago clothier Bigsby and Kruthers who sponsored my Chicago Jazz musical tours. Also, accompanied by the great Chicago poet Malik Yusef, I got a chance to perform with legendary rapper Common on his Album "One Day It Will All Make Sense." In 2001, I was offered a job to teach at the Fashion Institute of Technology (still there). Read More

My teaching experience dates back in college. I never thought that teaching would be a passion of mine until I began teaching privately 7 years ago. The first question I like to ask my students is what inspired you to play the saxophone and what are their overall goals. Where do they want to reach and strive for when playing their desired instrument? Based on the students' goals, I will gear my instruction towards my the needs and desires of the student and give them the best experience possible I began teaching students from my church who were eager to learn the saxophone. My primary focus is to make sure that each student is enjoying each lesson and builds a passion for the saxophone. I make sure that each student has a goal set in mind so that we can mold each lesson to further that goal. I encourage outside listening in order to better understand all the different styles of music that exists as well as getting in to the actual history of the saxophone itself. Read More

When an instrument is physically easy to play, it is much more enjoyable to practice! Other areas that I focus on include posture, breath support, emboucher, and reed placement. These are fundamentals of a woodwind player, and with some attention can make the playing experience that much more gratifying. I also encourage students to learnaboutthe history of the music they are studying and theirinstrument. I have a great passion for thetraditionand history of western music, and findthat knowledge of this tradition can inspire one to improve and study. Read More

I’m a woodwind doubler based in New York City; graduated with a degree in saxophone performance from Kennesaw State University in 2011. I’m passionate about music and enjoy sharing all the skills required to enjoy playing an instrument with my students. I spent years touring the world on cruise ships, international acts, and pit orchestras. Nowadays I focus most of my time working on playing all the single reed instruments and playing in the bands in musicals locally in and outside of New York City. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, along with my own personalized sound and technique exercises. After getting a grasp of the fundamentals - depending on the student's area of interest - I will either begin to introduce classical solo repertoire, jazz theory and transcription or concepts of a style of music the student is particularly interested in otherwise. Music composition is also one of my biggest passions, and I am always willing to introduce the wonderful world of writing your own music to my students, no matter their ability level. Read More
