When an instrument is physically easy to play, it is much more enjoyable to practice! Other areas that I focus on include posture, breath support, emboucher, and reed placement. These are fundamentals of a woodwind player, and with some attention can make the playing experience that much more gratifying. I also encourage students to learnaboutthe history of the music they are studying and theirinstrument. I have a great passion for thetraditionand history of western music, and findthat knowledge of this tradition can inspire one to improve and study. Read More

I am a caring, kind, and inspiring educator going into my 4th and final year at IU Jacobs School of Music for Music Education and Clarinet Performance. I am originally from Wappingers Falls, NY. I was motivated at a young age to pursue music from listening to my sister play the double bass and having excellent educators. I am looking to inspire my students just as my teachers have inspired me. Read More

After graduating from college I joined the Peace Corps. I spent 2 years in Tehran, Iran playing in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. After that I worked at an electronic music studio in Hawthorne, N.Y. The studio eventually shut down and I began teaching Band at the Stamford Public Schools where I taught music at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Read More

I am looking for students who have the time and energy to dedicate themselves to practicing a minimum of four times per week. My lessons are fast paced and fun, and students who practice regularly can expect to see noticeable improvement in their playing each week. In each lesson I will introduce some new techniques and will work with you on scales, fundamentals, exercises from a method book, and music (classical, jazz, or both, depending on the player's preferences). My teaching style is grounded in my own absolute love for music! This passion translates through in my teaching, which hopefully results in successful student learning. I also believe that the teacher needs to develop a rapport with the student, in order for successful learning. Furthermore, as previously stated, I've studied pedagogy at the undergraduate level. I realize what it takes to be a successful teacher, and believe in the importance of exposing young people, as well as folks of all ages, to music and the arts. Read More

Proper technique, learning the notes, and learning how to practice effectively is a great place to start. Even ten minutes a day is better than not practicing. Making lessons fun and giving students tools to bring home is very important to me. An example is learning some excersises to get the notes under your fingers, and some chords and scales to practice at home. The excersises will create and maintain proper technique. Read More
