I have been playing saxophone for over 20 years, but the last four years have been intense, as I was working diligently to complete my music degree. I supplement some of the things in the book with other literature and hand written exercise to help enhance learning experience. My methods depend entirely on where the student is beginning. If the student does not play in a school setting, I will usually start with Essential Elements. If they are playing in band, I will use whatever their teacher starts with in band and progress from there. The young student may prefer the use of technology such as Ipads and laptops. Some others may prefer to learn through paper books and methods. I attended Walt Whitman High School and was a member of its award winning Jazz Ensemble as a Tenor Saxophonist.
