These regular public performances serve as measurable and invaluable milestones that mark the degrees of growth and advancement along the path of learning. SPECIAL TOPICS FOR INDIVIDUALITY AND DIVERSITY. Although I emphasize techniques and skills that are rooted in the classical tradition in order to accomplish a solid foundation, I am mindful of each students inclination and strengths. As students become more proficient in keyboard techniques and the basic musicianship, I introduce popular styles, such as jazz/blues, ragtime and rock, to broaden their horizons and explore their interests. My master's degree in trumpet performance at the University of Denver included a teaching assistantship: I taught trumpet lessons, coached brass quintets, trumpet ensembles, and more. I had a private studio in Denver and again in Cleveland, where I was before relocating to DC. In Cleveland I taught full-time and ended up with over fifty private students. My students there received such honors as entrance into the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Youth Wind Symphonies. Read More

I find each student's possibility. Some are good at reading music, but other are good at listening. Some have creativity to compose music and other are good at understanding what composers idea and perform music beautifully. Therefore I take different approach to each student. I discuss about their goal and set the goal with together with students. I explain what is the best way to achieve the goal. I instruct them clearly step by step and let them know what they have to do every day. Read More

I have always loved playing the piano ever since I was a young child and eventually ended up teaching piano after receiving my Bachelors degree from Towson University. I was taught privately an instructor from Peabody Institute and eventually went to community College, then Towson University; where I was excepted into the music program. Read More

I have made sure to transfer all of these skills to my private teaching. I am very direct with my students and act as facilitator in lesson discussions, and to try not making decisions for them. I heavily employ the "trial by fire" and "sink or swim" methods, as I've found those the most effective in my lifetime of learning new things. However, I am flexible in going back and reteaching and remodeling, as long as we still keep our "eyes on the prize", whether that be personal rewards, scholastic musical awards, musical career advancement, music therapy approach/feelings, etc. Read More

If there's anything I've learned over the years as a piano teacher, it's that every student develops and progresses at his or her own pace. My job, if doing it well, is to work with them, at THEIR pace, while at the same time, encouraging and pushing them forward. Just as some baseball managers are regarded as a player's manager, I like to consider myself a student's coach. That is, a teacher who is in the student's corner, supporting them, encouraging them, believing in them, no matter how much they may struggle, or how many bumps in the road they may face along their musical journeys.
