New York-based musician Daniel Jamieson grew up in Toronto, Canada. He currently works as a free-lance composer, conductor, woodwind specialist, and educator. Daniel's writing commissions span a variety of styles including jazz, pop, and musical theatre. He leads a 10 piece jazz ensemble, the Daniel Jamieson Tentet and his own big band, the Danjam Orchestra. In 1998, I began teaching saxophone lessons in Houston, TX. I have taught saxophone lessons in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2008. My students were in middle school, high school, college. and adults. In addition, I have taught students who wanted to start a new hobby or were interested in returning to an instrument that they played in the past. In 2011, I began studying with Joe Eckert at TCU. At TCU, I coached the saxophone quartets, lead rehearsals for the jazz ensemble saxophone section, performed classical saxophone recitals, and performed with the jazz ensemble. Read More

I have 3 methods/philosophies: 1) The student should be excited about what they are playing! I like to stay away from methods books and dive into real repertoire. I have no limitations on genre, but I am personally excited about classical music, which includes contemporary classical music/experimental art. 2) If interested, I would like the student to learn the basics of music theory so that the music they are playing is brought to a new level of understanding. When I first meet with a student, I usually try to get a sense of their ability level, goals, and the styles of music they enjoy. Since everyone is unique, I tailor my lesson plans to each individual. I can help with planning a practice routine, and with selecting music that is interesting, fun, and hopefully a bit challenging (because thats how we improve)! I will recommend method books, and music books, and write a clear practice schedule at every lesson, and will look for ways to keep my students motivated. Read More
