My method varies for every student but I have a very specific plan for each level of experience. Beginners would focus on essential elements books and beginner packets that cover basics and also have rewarding solo pieces. More advanced students would focus on scales and long tones with etudes for fundamentals and repertoire for solo playing and performances. For beginning students who are children, I start with Rubank's Elementary Method book.  This will provide the student with the basic fundementals.  I will then introduce the student to a variety of solo repertoire for his or her instrument. I try to make my lessons as fun as possible so the child grows up with music as a fun, artistic outlet.  For students who already have knowledge on their instrument or who are adults, I aim to find what the student is interested in, and adjust my instruction accordingly. I was then invited to move back to my college town of Brookings, South Dakota to be their middle school band director. My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014.
