As a teacher my goal is to push the students toward their best potential, guide them along the way, and make sure they have a full grasp of note reading, rhythm, expression, technique, and dynamics. And since I only see them once a week, the real work takes place at home with the parents, so for the younger players I teach them but also teach their parents how to push and motivate them at home. I adapt my methods to each student accordingly. Every person is unique and has a different taste in music. However I am strict in making sure that all my students understand the fundamentals of music. There is so much to learn in music, it can be tempting to try to teach concepts too quickly. However, an organized, logical approach that introduces one concept at a time works best. The best music theory teacher I have had was organized and was able to stick to teaching one concept at a time, with sequential lessons building on the information from the previous lesson. Read More

I also continued leadership roles in college, including section leader, choral officer, assistant conductor, and director of two choral ensembles. My professors also noticed my aptitude for pedagogy and have guided me throughout these positions with a very student-centered mind. I am just out of college, so I am young but I'm full of fresh ideas, experience, and a continued passion for learning and performing that I can share with my students. Read More

I strive to develop a customized learning approach for each of my students, depending on their needs and goals. I implement a combination of the Faber method, Alfred method, and compilations of works by talented piano pedagogs such as Keith Snell, Martha Ashleigh, Ingrid Jacobson Clarfield, Melody Bober, and Julie McIntosh Johnson. I have found that by using a combination of these resources I am able to focus on all eras of music history and style, as well as cover all bases of theory fundamentals. Read More
