As a music educator in private lessons and classroom environments, I successfully help my students become better musicians, not only adding to their ability to perform, but also deepening the theoretical and historical understanding of their instrument. I work with children of all ages with all levels of ability to develop self-discipline and inspiration to reach new heights in harnessing their craft. In my role on the teaching staff at the Jacksonville (FL Community Music School, I worked to bring inspiring educational experiences to elementary and middle school age music students. Read More

I then continue my studies at the Verona Conservatory with Barry Harris, at the American School of Modern Music in Paris with Johnny Griffin and Charles Lloyd, at the "GB Martini" Music Conservatory in Bologna with Barend Middelhoff and Tomaso Lama, as well as with Tom Kirkpatrick and Bob Franceschini. Later I moved to The Hague, in the Netherlands, where I attended the Royal Conservatory (Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag) learning from musicians like Toon Roos, Eric Gieben, Erik Ineke, Rolf Delfos, Gwilym Simcock, Dave Glasser, Dave Libman, and Joshua Redman. I typically start beginner students on the Rubank Elementary Method books for saxophone, clarinet, or flute. These books are a great way to introduce the basic mechanics of the instrument, as well as reading music. I generally like to branch out from the method books as soon as possible, by supplementing the basic reading with other technical studies and pieces. For adults and more advanced students, I like to steer the focus more in the direction of what they want to learn, while still teaching the proper fundamentals of the instrument! Read More

I like to have students move at their own pace. I would work with each student and learn their strengths and weaknesses in regards to playing their instrument, and use that knowledge to help guide them along during the lessons and in what work or etudes I give them to practice in between each lesson. For example, if a beginner student is struggling with the fundamentals of music or their instrument, I might spend more time on that to make them more comfortable with the fundamentals. Read More

For younger students, I find that book based methods are very helpful, and typically I go through the Hal Leonard Essential Elements Series. Once the student has a firm handle of the basics of saxophone (fingerings, embouchure, dynamics, etc.) then I start having them read etude books, and prepare pieces for recitals and other performances or auditions. For adults, I like to teach based on a goal oriented program. For example, If I have a student who is only interested in learning the saxophone for the sake of playing "Yakety Sax" or "The Pink Panther Theme", then I will tailor the lesson plan towards learning that while still working on the fundamentals of Saxophone along the way. This, too, varies based on the individual student. I pride myself on my flexibility, and always try to run my lessons based on what best fits the student's personality and learning style. I always, however, provide a thorough and comprehensive music educationI want my students to understand the music they're learning, not just learn how to play their instrument. And most importantly, I strive to maintain a patient, encouraging learning environment. Read More
