I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. I believe that learning music is most beneficial when it is 50% discipline and 50% creativity. My students are able to use discipline to pursue their creative goals. For example, if a student wants to create extremely fast guitar solos, they must first learn to play a scale extremely fast. Once their basic scales are up to speed, I will provide them with dexterity exercises which improve the precision and flexibility of their fingers. Read More

My teaching style is fairly laid-back, allowing each student to progress at their own pace. This allows me the freedom to tailor the instruction to the specific needs of the student and successfully find what creates their individual passion. I also believe that - especially in creative mediums like music and art - every negative critique I point out needs to be accompanied by at least two positive critiques. This positive reinforcement will help push students to progress rather than pushing them down, and all I want is to see the people I teach grow as both budding musicians and people. Read More
