I began teaching lessons in high school, and have now been actively teaching privately for over 5 years. I mainly teach saxophone and clarinet, but I am also able to teach beginner piano and flute. I always encourage my students to practice consistently, yet I understand if students are busy and have a lot going on. Read More

In my private lessons I emphasize building a strong foundation in rhythm, intonation, and note accuracy. I incorporate learning theory, and playing with musical intention into every lesson to develop maturity, even in young musicians. My students are comfortable reading music, and have all the skills they need to practice effectively. In addition, I have prepared many musicians for successful concerts, festivals, and gigs. I create my own custom lesson plans and materials to cater to the students needs. For young beginners, I recommend the KJOS Standard of Excellence book. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I have played many diverse styles over the years. In addition to being well known in the world of classical saxophone, where I have worked with and studied with several world famous players, I have always enjoyed playing in jazz ensembles and playing clarinet in both chamber music and symphony orchestra settings. Music has given me the opportunity to tour to a dozen countries and perform in some of the world's great concert halls, from Carnegie Hall to Lincoln Center in New York to halls in London, Moscow, Kiev, and Tokyo. The roots of my teaching experiences began at the Lagond Music School in Elmsford, NY. There I taught in the College Preparatory Summer Program, and led classes in Theory, Rythym, Improvisation and Sight Reading. I also taught 4th and 5th grade saxophone classes at P.S. 290 in New York City through the Manhattan School of Music outreach program. Today I am teaching privately and as the woodwind instructor at a local music school. Read More

My pedagogy is based on the American jazz tradition and the teachings of Orff and Kodaly. I like to impart a holistic love of music in my students, without boring them with too much history or theory. However, it is my belief that theory and musical literacy will open doors to a greater level of fulfillment and understanding of music as a whole. The materials I use vary from student to student and from instrument to instrument, depending on each student's goals and progress. Read More
